Films and laminate for food and industrial packaging
Biaxially oriented polyethylene-terephthalate (BO PET) TENOLAN® films are designed for further processing especially by packaging technology – for production of food and industrial packaging. To a large extent it is a subsequently laminated BO PET film with additional layers. They are specifically designed for direct contact with foodstuffs and meals and must comply with any hygienic regulations in force.
BO PET film is often vacuum-coated (metallised). The coating improves the appearance and at the same time increases resistance to oxygen and water vapour permeation. The appearance can be improved by dyeing BO PET film in the mass.
Multi-layer laminated materials are mostly of film type, with the basic layer consisting of a BO PET film. The laminate can be hard (usually BO PET + paper board) or soft (BOPET + PE, PP, EVOH…). BO PET film usually forms the upper, visible part of the laminate, is scratch-resistant, prints well, and has low haze and sufficient gloss.
The different types of FOLAM® materials are mainly used for packaging. The combination of the good barrier properties of the BO PET base material and the easy weldability of the additional materials (PE, PP) can be used to advantage in the design of the packaging.
